It was Wired’s 25th annual conference where WhatsApp’s co-founder Brian Acton stated to social network users that they have to make their decision whether they want to use social networking sites or not. Although he wants to leave social networking sites especially Facebook. At this conference, he also added: “If you want to be on facebook and you want to have adds thrust in front of you, go to town”.
The actual tweet of Acton came in Cambridge Analytica scan as the #DeleteFacebook movement swept the nation. Acton started his fight against these kinds of social networking sites when the 2016 election campaigning started. Because in that time facebook spread fake news and fake data which made an impact on the election result.
In that time Acton kept a safe distance from facebook for more than a year. In 2017 he was stepping down over a conflict with Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of facebook. After this incident, he became a vocal critic of the social network.
“I LEFT MY TOMBSTONE ON TWITTER. TO MY CHARGING WAS A LOT MORE PUBLIC AND VISIBLE.”
Journalist Steven Levy asked Acton why he decided to share his feelings publicly. Acton replied “At the time, there was pressure unfolding against facebook. ” He added “I was like, maybe its time. Then I realized a fatal flaw in facebook is they don’t have Tombstones. ” As a result, he put his tombstone on tweeter.
Acton is the first facebook executive who accused the organization after leaving facebook. In 2017 the former head of growth Chamath Palihapitiya made waves by stated that they had been created tools that were ripping apart the social fabric of how society works.
“IF HE WANTS TO MAKE IT HAPPEN, HE WILL. BUT HE HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CHANGE HIS MIND.”
In the last month attorney general William told to Levy that if he wanted to make it happen, he would be. But he had been known to change his mind.
Zuckerberg faced a huge problem. Levy said that more power to facebook if they accomplished that. Levy added, “But it will be difficult for Zuckerberg to do”.
Facebook has been facing different kinds of obstacles in many other fields, especially in the fields of technicality. There have been lots of discussions about the increasing amount of insecurity and lack of privacy among its users. A huge number of fake accounts have made a person’s facebook account to be uncertain and suspicious as well. 3 billion fake accounts have been recorded over the last quarter of 2018 and the first quarter of 2019. Critics and technological bloggers have highly criticized this social media organization about their ignorance about the fact that how many real account holders are present on their website. Many bloggers have also given negative criticism about the rumored new face-scanning feature that facebook has included.
Thus, adding to the tension is the statement made by the WhatsApp co-founder.
